Probably DataColor (the Spyder5 maker) has put great effort from an engineering team into obtaining good data for their colorimeters so they can get good calibration results quickly, and it will take a lot of work for outsiders to match that with Displa圜AL.Īt this point I prefer the results from the 6 minute run from the standard Spyder5 software It looks like essentially the user needs to tailor the Displa圜AL settings for their particular colorimeter. I think it will take days of tinkering to get the results any better than the 6 minute standard Spyder5 run. There are a number of settings for Displa圜AL to get it to work the best, for the user's particular goal. I also ran Displa圜AL again selecting the white backlight LED option and there is very little difference. The black crush differences can be seen on black-and-white test pattern images but are not very obvious on real-world images. I set the RGB values for equal levels and total level about 120 cd/m**2 (normally I like it brighter like 170 but 120 is tolerable especially at night).Īnyway the new calibration again produces some black crush, but it is only a little more than the 6 minute result from the Spyder5 software. The calibration ran with no complaints (in about an hour) from the software after I moved it to the Applications folder so presumably that cures the missing calibration data problem, if that is important.
